Lynette from CCC comes to visit
This week to celebrate the start of the school holidays, we had Lynette from Christchurch city libraries in to read us some new puka puka (Books). She also came to sing some new waiata too. Lynette has been visiting us for years, and nga tamariki always really enjoy her when she's here. Books and storytelling play an important role in building language and literacy skills from birth onwards. Books and storytelling build tamariki imagination and understanding of themselves, others and their wider world. Sharing and discussing stories strengthens their vocabulary and ability to tell their own stories.
Books also help build concepts about print and the written word. Lynette has a way of quickly capturing nga tamariki attention, through singing and reading puka puka. Lynette has visited us a number of times over the years, and i can always hear roars of laughter when she is in the centre. Lynette manages to capture the attention of our younger pepi also, by making the mat times fun and exciting. We look forward to having her back again soon, and sharing some fantastic new books and song with our tamariki. What an amazing opportunity Christchurch city libraries provides us with, to support our tamariki and their learning.
This relates well to our philosophy and vision through Vision: belonging, being becoming me..... Feeling a sense of belonging in the centre by having a regular routine and predictable events throughout the year.
