At BestStart Parkside the children and their families experience an environment where connecting links with the family and the wider world are affirmed by extended planning through our local curriculum. One of the ways our children and families experience what our local community has to offer is by having regular excursions.

BestStart Parkside is fortunately situated opposite North Hagley Park, a natural environment just across our centre providing plenty of opportunities to play in natural environment. Children collect natural materials which then are used in arts and crafts lessons, making teaching resources and for decorations fostering sustainability. Children had a lovely experience visiting the Recreation and Cultural Centre which is across the centre.

We were lucky and blessed to have such an amazing community centre, who organise numerous events, involving Ministry of Education, Fire and Police Department, Plunket, charitable organisations, and other cultural groups. During our last excursion our children met and greeted some very important community organisations and were gifted some amazing learning resources. We played educational games with the Plunket on keeping safe, Fire department talked to the children about fire safety and gave some colouring packs. We also had a snack plate each from the organizers, which the children really enjoyed.

Parent help is always welcome and we are fortunate to have parents who are willing to assist us. Excursions are an on-going part of the planning at BestStart Parkside.
