Kia ora, 你好, नमस्ते, வணக்கம், ආයුබෝවන්. Last week we went on our first excursion to the Manakura Playground, which was right across the road from our preschool. We took our kai as well as some resources that kaiako Tylah had prepared for the tamariki to use while we were there.

While we were eating out kai, our friends Eva and Rochelle were making their way over to the park. When they realised we were also at the park, they were in disbelief and so excited to come and hang out with their friends and kaiako on their day off. This experience was filled with lots of adventure, physical exploration, mahi tahi (working together), and lots of turn taking and active listening.

The tamariki enjoyed the piu (swing) and loved taking turns at pushing our friends teitei (high) into the rangi (sky). Our tuakana (older tamariki) loved helping the teina (younger children) with making sure they were staying in the playground and being haumaru (safe). We had a lot of laughs, questions, and story telling of past, present, and future experiences. "I go to this park lots with my family", a tamaiti had said while playing on the piu. "Me too", another tamaiti had said excitedly.

This conversation led to many more past experiences being shared among the tamariki and it brought new friends closer together. Overall, we had a fantastic trip and we cannot wait to have more excursions into the hapori (community).
