Manipulative Play
At BestStart Parkside the teachers are constantly reviewing the environment, planning for children's interests and updating the resources to extend and challenge children's learning and development. The children have shown continuous interest in manipulative play. Through manipulative play resources, creative thinking, fine motor skills development, cognitive thinking and social skills including literacy, language and numeracy skills are fostered. Over this month our focus was on the older boys and their interests. We have purchased new resources and topped up new things to existing resources. There are a variety of activities for children to choose from, which makes settling in and transitions very smooth. Children are happy, engaged and learning a lot from the open-ended resources. Children are encouraged to respect the toys by looking after them, they are learning to share, and they are encouraged to tidy up after play, learning to be responsible and respectful.
