We had a beautiful and meaningful celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori here at BestStart Parau Drive!
Throughout the week, our tamariki had lots of fun exploring te reo Māori through play, music, movement, art, and everyday learning experiences.
They practised naming colours, counting from tahi to tekau, learning parts of the body, and discovering new words together. It was lovely to see them becoming more confident as they used and repeated the words they were learning throughout the day.
Our tamariki also enjoyed making their own poi, painting their waka, and singing and dancing along to different waiata in te reo Māori. These hands-on experiences gave them opportunities to express their creativity, share their ideas, learn alongside their friends, and enjoy using te reo Māori in meaningful and fun ways.
Through these experiences, tamariki were encouraged to build confidence in using te reo Māori, express themselves creatively, participate and contribute alongside others, and develop a stronger sense of belonging and connection to Aotearoa New Zealand.
These experiences reflect the principles and strands of Te Whāriki, where language, culture, relationships, exploration, and participation are woven together to support tamariki as confident and capable learners. Most importantly, it was a week filled with creativity, connection, laughter, fun, and learning.
We loved seeing our tamariki embrace te reo Māori and celebrate the beauty of our language and culture together. Ka pai, tamariki! He tino pai ā koutou mahi!
