Matariki at BestStart Puni Road was a night of connection, culture, and celebration. Whānau shared kai, enjoyed performances, danced together, and honoured loved ones — a true reflection of the aroha and belonging at the heart of our centre.
The stars came together for a special night here at BestStart Puni Road as we gathered with our whānau to celebrate Matariki.
This celebration was so special for everyone, as we don’t just see ourselves as a centre — we are a whānau. It was the perfect time to come together, share stories, happiness, and welcome another year with aroha and hope.
Our celebration began with a warm welcome from our Centre Manager, Kendra, who shared a heartfelt message of gratitude and led a karakia before we enjoyed a warm dinner prepared with love by our wonderful cook, Pauline. Our kai was made even more special with vegetables gifted by our whānau. The fry bread was a big favourite too.
Our tamariki lit up the evening with a surprise performance they had been preparing with their kaiako. With lots of practice and encouragement, they truly let their light shine on stage. Their joy and confidence radiated through the room, spreading good luck and happiness to all.
After the performance, one of our tamariki’s dads set up the fire for the most awaited part — roasting marshmallows. Another magical moment added to the night.
The Matariki disco itself was a beautiful blend of laughter, music, and connection. From the early preparations, to collecting the veggies for kai, to the shared moments on the dance floor, this celebration was a true whānau effort.
We also took a moment to honour those who are no longer with us by placing their names on our pōhutukawa tree — a gentle reminder of those we carry in our hearts.
More than anything, this celebration reflected the kind of centre we strive to be — a place where children, families, and kaiako come together not just to learn, but to belong. Our hope is to keep building a centre that feels like home, where every tamaiti is seen, every whānau is valued, and every celebration is shared with aroha.
Here at BestStart Puni Road, our tamariki are like stars — each one shining in their own way, and always cherished, guided, and admired as they grow.
