Matariki provides an opportunity for tamariki to explore the values of diversity, community,  participation and respect for self and others.

The Matariki science activity integrated biculturalism and science at the same time by creating a baking soda stars Rangoli (a traditional Indian art form using coloured sand, powder, flower petals or ground rice to decorate a floor) and using food colouring and vinegar to make the stars disappear. During this experience the tamariki went "Ooh" and "Ahh" over the chemical reactions they created.

This experiment was great to extend their knowledge about Matariki stars as well as Rangoli and exploring their 5 senses.
