At BestStart Claudelands, we kaiako believe that learning should be joyful, active, and deeply connected to the natural rhythms of childhood.
One of our favourite ways to spark engagement and support holistic development is through music and movement—the learning experiences light up our learning space quite like the beloved action song, “Sleeping Bunny.”
As the gentle music begins, our tamariki lie quietly on the floor, embodying sleepy little bunnies tucked in their burrows. Kaiako guide the scene with warmth and enthusiasm, weaving in te reo Māori kupu and gestures to enhance understanding and cultural connection.
Then… the beat picks up! With wide smiles and eager energy, tamariki “wake up,” hopping up and down to the rhythm—laughing, moving, and expressing themselves freely. It’s more than adorable; it’s deeply meaningful. This playful, rhythmic experience nurtures a wide range of learning outcomes:
- Physical Development: Jumping, balancing, and following actions strengthen gross motor skills and coordination.
- Social Learning: Tamariki delight in shared movement, building relationships, turn-taking, and cooperative play.
- Emotional Expression: Movement lets children express joy, excitement, and creativity in a safe and supported space. -
- Cognitive Skills: Following musical cues and structured actions builds memory, sequencing, and listening skills.
- Cultural Enrichment: Kaiako incorporate te reo Māori phrases to support identity and belonging.
At BestStart Claudelands, kaiako intentionally create music and movement experiences that are inclusive, culturally rich, and developmentally tuned. “Sleeping Bunny” is more than a favourite song—it’s a gateway into imaginative play, self-expression, and meaningful learning.
Why not come visit our center with your little one and join us? We look forward to many more giggles, hops, and sleepy bunny moments to come!
