Nature Play at BestStart Puketaha
At BestStart Puketaha we are fortunate in that we have such a large outdoor space with real grass, animals and an abundance of open paddocks that we can allow our tamariki to just freely explore in. We also have a massive community garden where we plant vegetables and we have a few fruit trees around the property where we are able to pick fruit and have picnics outside under our beautiful trees.
Learning through nature play is a powerful way for children to develop important skills and concepts. By engaging with the natural world, children can learn about science, math, language, and social skills while also developing their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and emotional intelligence. Nature play allows children to explore, investigate, and make connections with the world around them, fostering a sense of wonder, curiosity, and awe. It also encourages physical activity, sensory exploration, and imagination, which are all essential for healthy development.
Our nursery children love getting their gumboots on and heading out for a walk in the paddocks to collect fruit, visit our animals or help in the gardens. There is always something to do, something to look at, something to listen to or taste.
