Here at BestStart Delta Ave, our tamariki have had an amazing time celebrating our diverse cultures. Our dress-up day, Diwali, and Christmas celebrations at the centre brought together cultures, teams, and whānau in the most beautiful way.

On dress-up day, children arrived in their favourite outfits and spent the day with friends, engaging in creative and imaginative role-play. During our Diwali festivities, tamariki enjoyed a range of activities, including henna artwork, shaping and painting clay diyas, a firework paint activity, dancing, and various arts and crafts. Some of our whānau helped create intricate henna designs on the children’s hands, providing a wonderful opportunity for them to explore the artistic possibilities.

Our centre’s Christmas party was also a huge success! Our talented tamariki showcased their singing and dancing skills, putting in tremendous effort, practice, and courage to enthral their whānau. The youngest pepi room babies delighted everyone with a dance to Baby Shark in both te reo and English, joined by our “real” Mummy Shark. The toddlers performed to the Macarena, while the pre-schoolers gave a charming rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Santa and his helpers distributed gifts, and families enjoyed a relaxing afternoon sharing kai with their little ones.

These celebrations foster cultural intelligence by weaving diversity into everyday learning. When tamariki and whānau experience inclusiveness, it creates a strong sense of oneness and belonging within our community.
