Once again Pink Shirt Day rolled around and we at Dixon Height got into the spirit of this day with our tamariki.
From both tamariki and staff wearing items of clothing with pink on them. Each ruma had pink theme activities from colouring and making our own Pink Shirt posters and talking about what Pink Shirt Day was about and what it meant for us.
Water play was done with pink colouring and tamariki playing with pink resources. It was great to see so many of our tamariki engaged in Pink-related activities throughout the day and role modelling their kindness with each other from sharing things, to including others in activities/games, to talking about being caring for all at our centre.
Kaiako also read books and did storytelling around being kind and caring to others and asked tamariki questions around this. Pink Day was successful for us at Dixon Heights, with many taking away the important message of it.
Pink Shirt Day aligns with our centre vision, “Love Me, Believe Me, Teach Me”. This is demonstrated through our curriculum and the learning and teaching practices that Kaiako set out. For example, using positive verbal and non-verbal communication with everyone, resources that promote inclusion, accepting each other as they are through role modelling kind and caring interactions.
Working together to achieve something and respecting each other’s choices. This also applies to our tamariki whanau who are welcomed as part of our centre whanau.
