As the new year begins, it is all go at Pipiwai Kindy. Our team has returned from annual leave, tamariki are settling back into familiar routines, and kaiako are intentionally planning and creating new, engaging learning experiences.
Re-establishing routines helps children feel secure and confident, while our curriculum remains responsive to children’s interests, strengths, and emerging ideas. We are excited to build on last year’s learning and introduce new opportunities that support curiosity, independence, and wellbeing.
Last year, our teaching team strengthened a consistent and meaningful approach to planning through Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), which follow a six-month cycle. The process begins with an “All About Me” form, where whānau share valuable insights about who their child is, what they enjoy, what motivates them, and what is important to their whānau.
From this, kaiako and whānau work together to develop a learning goal that reflects each child’s interests, strengths, and learning dispositions. Teaching strategies are then intentionally planned and embedded within everyday learning experiences.
Learning is documented through short snippets that show progress over time, a progress report at the three-month point, and a detailed learning analysis at six months. When children turn four, a Set for School section is added, with further whānau input to ensure learning supports school readiness in line with family hopes and aspirations.
Whānau voice is a vital part of this process, and we truly value your input as we work together towards shared goals and positive learning outcomes for every child.
