Our Pūkeko Room tamariki (under-twos) went in our centre van on an exciting trip to the Waikato Museum’s Air Playground, and our tamariki were full of excitement.
From the moment we stepped inside, the children were amazed by floating balls, gentle breezes, and endless opportunities for playful discovery, bringing science concepts to life in a way that felt natural and fun.
Throughout the visit, the room was filled with wonder and kōrero. Our pēpi followed swirling scarves in the air, reached out to feel new textures, and delighted in seeing objects float and dance. It was a beautiful example of learning through all the senses, with lots of chances to laugh, wonder, and experiment together.
A strong sense of whanaungatanga blossomed as children giggled together, pointed out their discoveries, and invited others to join in. We saw learning happen not just by watching, but by doing, mirroring actions, trying things out, and exploring ideas in their own unique ways. Kaiako responded to each child’s interests, encouraging curiosity and supporting children as they made sense of new experiences. Inspired by our adventure, our discoveries continued back at the centre.
We played with bubbles, floated scarves, and revisited memories from the museum, weaving these fresh understandings into our everyday routines. We look forward to many more adventures, discoveries, and joyful moments with our Pūkeko Room tamariki!
