At BestStart Railway Road, we love getting out and exploring our local community!
This week, our tamariki took an exciting trip to our local Woolworths to gather all the essentials for our upcoming Lunchbox Day as part of our Set for School Programme.
This real-life learning experience gave our tamariki the opportunity to plan, prepare, and make choices about what they would need for their lunchboxes. Everyone was so engaged as we explored the aisles, looked at different ingredients, and talked about making healthy choices.
On our way back, we even stopped in at Bunnings to pick up some essentials for our vegetable garden here at the centre. Our tamariki were eager to help choose what we needed to continue caring for our growing garden — a great way to connect our learning about kai and sustainability!
Back at the centre, we continued our adventure by baking our own bread and preparing the items we had chosen for our special lunch the next day. It was a wonderful experience filled with teamwork, decision-making, and hands-on fun — all while building important life skills! At BestStart Railway Road, we believe learning goes beyond the classroom — it’s about exploring, doing, and connecting with our community.
