Red Heart Day at BestStart Pyes Pa turned classrooms into vibrant learning spaces. From making fruit salad to exploring the benefits of vitamin-rich foods, tamariki embraced the message of healthy hearts and shared their knowledge with pride.

BestStart Pyes Pa proudly celebrated Red Heart Day, an engaging event focused on raising awareness about heart health and preventing heart disease.

The classrooms were transformed into vibrant hubs of activity, filled with hands-on experiences designed to teach tamariki about heart-healthy foods and the importance of regular physical activity.

A highlight of the day was a fun and interactive session where tamariki made their own healthy fruit salads. With guidance from our talented centre cook, Laura, the children took turns cutting, slicing, and mixing a colourful range of fresh fruits—strawberries, apples, kiwifruit, watermelon, and oranges.

As they prepared their fruit salads, Laura shared information about the nutritional benefits of each fruit. She explained that kiwifruit and oranges are especially high in vitamin C, which supports a strong immune system and overall health.

Once the salads were complete, tamariki enjoyed tasting their creations. Older children even took on leadership roles, sharing with younger peers how fruits like kiwifruit can help build strength and fight common illnesses such as colds and coughs.

This enriching event offered more than just a fun activity—it instilled valuable knowledge about healthy eating, encouraged teamwork, and fostered a deeper understanding of wellness. The day’s experiences are sure to leave a lasting impression on our tamariki, shaping their choices for a healthier future.
