Sandpit Skills at BestStart Pukuatua
Here at BestStart Pukautua, we believe all our children are leaders of their own learning. They all have their own ways and styles of learning, and the sandpit really helps to increase these skills.
A group of our four-year-olds wanted to make the sandpit super flat just like the road so they could run on the sand. Out came the rollers and the long plastic tubes and away they went. They rolled, banged, smoothed, stamped until they had created what they wanted.
We are here to support our children but allow them to create what they have pictured in their own minds. We strive for our children to be independent in their thinking and actions, working as a group and by themselves, being able to make their own choices and knowing that if it does not work, that is ok as well!
We provide support and resources to help our children explore their own thinking with open-ended questions but ultimately the choice and completed product is theirs.
