BestStart Manukau recently hosted a Set for School information evening, welcoming Puhinui School’s Junior Team Leader to share key guidance on school readiness. Families gained valuable insight into supporting tamariki as they transition confidently to primary school.
Kia ora,
We are proud to share that our Set for School programme at BestStart Manukau is progressing well. On 28 August 2025, we hosted a successful event for our parents and whānau as part of this initiative.
We were honoured to welcome Mrs Angela Cave, Junior School Team Leader from Puhinui School, who shared her valuable insights into what tamariki need before starting school. Angela spoke about the importance of social readiness, self-help skills, and early literacy, as well as the school enrolment process and how school zoning works — information our whānau found especially helpful.
The evening included an engaging Q&A session, where parents asked thoughtful questions about how to best support their child’s transition to school. It was an informative and empowering experience for everyone involved.
Our teaching team also shared the rich learning that happens at BestStart Manukau and how we support tamariki in developing independence, social confidence, and a love for learning through everyday experiences.
We also highlighted how our localised curriculum supports smooth transitions. Regular visits to Puhinui School help our children feel confident and comfortable in a new environment before they begin their school journey.
By staying connected with our local community, BestStart Manukau continues to build strong relationships with nearby schools. These partnerships are key to ensuring a positive and successful start for every child.
