Nau Mai Haere Mai, Welcome to Best Start Pukuatua and the simple science that is so much fun.
In our Tarawera room (4-year-old unit), they are looking at science and the fun ways we can play and learn with this at Pukuatua.
Today is was baking soda and vinegar and what would the balloon do if we mixed the two of them together. One of the things we knew was that the baking soda and the vinegar are what we use to make volcanoes in the sandpit so we may see and smell the fizz like we usually do.
As we placed the baking soda in the balloon and then stretched it over the bottle of vinegar, we noticed that the ballon got bigger and the fizz stayed in the bottle. The balloon was getting bigger and bigger but, we could not smell it like we do in the sandpit when we make volcanoes.
We loved to watch the "magic" happen when we mixed these two ingredients. Simple science is something that we can do at home as well as have so much fun here at Pukuatua. The wonder, amazement, and learning always provide an experience for our tamariki to learn and recreate this at home. Simple science is something we can easily do and has the maximum learning effect.
Come and see for yourself!
