BestStart Motutaiko Street's annual team up with Kids Greening Taupo to contribute to the local Taupo environment.

Armed with shovels and saplings, we joined hands with other schools to plant native trees, enhancing the natural beauty of Taupo and fostering a sense of unity.

Central to the day's experiences was kaitiakitanga, the Māori principle of guardianship. This philosophy emphasises the responsibility to care for and protect the environment, ensuring its health and vitality for future generations. Our children learned about the importance of whakapapa and manaakitanga, which are key concepts in Māori culture.

Our community event was not just about planting trees, it was an educational experience. These hands on experieces helped instill a deep respect for nature and the role they play as guardians. Taupo Green Day was a testament to the power of community spirit. Families, educators, and local leaders came together to support a common cause.

The presence of BestStart Motutaiko Street highlighted the importance of involving young minds in environmental conservation, teaching them the values of Te Ao Māori from an early age. As the day drew to a close, the newly planted trees stood as symbols of hope and commitment to a sustainable future.

The children of BestStart Motutaiko Street left with a sense of accomplishment and a deeper understanding of their role as kaitiaki and involvement in Taupo Greening Day was a beautiful blend of action and education.
