This year, we were excited to begin with a gentle refresh of our Kōwhai Room, creating an even more nurturing and peaceful space for our pepi and young toddlers. Our focus was on designing an environment that feels calm, safe, and responsive to the needs of our youngest learners as they settle, explore, and grow.
We introduced soft, natural tones throughout the room, drawing inspiration from nature with branches, leaves, and earthy shades of brown and black. By toning down brighter decorations, we aimed to create a cosier atmosphere that supports emotional security, concentration, and meaningful exploration.
Already this January, we have noticed our tamariki engaging more calmly in their play, spending longer periods exploring resources, and showing signs of feeling settled and confident within the space.
The refresh is still an ongoing journey as we begin to add the children’s own artworks and creations. These personal touches help make the room truly theirs, fostering a sense of belonging and pride while celebrating each child’s individuality and learning journey.
As we move through the year, we are looking forward to welcoming new pepi and their whānau into the Kōwhai Room. We can’t wait to build strong relationships, support early development, and watch our youngest learners grow and thrive in this peaceful, inspiring environment.
