This is me!
On November 29, 2024 BestStart Waitangirua held its end of year concert at PIC Community Hall in Cannons Creek, Porirua to celebrate and acknowledge the uniqueness of each tamaiti. "This Is Me" (the title of the event) reflected the diversity and richness of BestStart Waitangirua's culture and how we value everyone's language, culture and identity.
This has been attended by a lot of our families and extended families where everyone enjoyed listening to the tamariki perform songs from different countries. The tamariki have worked so hard in practicing daily for this event and this highlighted not only the perseverance, patience and willingness of our children to learn songs from different cultures, but also the pride they carry for their own culture and that of others.
Each room shared waiata that showcased the different cultures within the learning environment and provided pride to their families in the way the children sang the words, danced the actions, and stood confidently in front of a large audience. It was indeed a wonderful way to conclude our year-long journey toward embracing diversity, celebrating culture, language and identity, and acknowledging the beauty of each and every person who is a part of the BestStart Waitangirua family.
