Transition to School Group
Each day in our Makamaka classroom our four year tamariki spend time together preparing for their transition to school. Each kaiako takes turns to hold these sessions, and support the children with literacy, numeracy and self help skills - all areas of the curriculum that will support the children and their transition from Early Childhood into Primary School.
We have spent time communicating with our local new entrants teachers to hear their opinions on what neccesary skills are needed for when children start at primary school - these skills are used to plan and carry out our 4 year old group sessions. Our tamariki will start monthly visits to our local schools next term to take part in a snippet of the school day, build relationships with their future kaiako and peers, and to become familiar with the new environment.
Being part of a small community we are excited to be able to have the opportunity to visit and spend time with the schools in our area. Here at BestStart Mosgiel we take pride in knowing we are sending our 4 year olds off on their next adventure ready and prepared to take on any challenges that lie ahead of them.
