Our littlest tamariki from Toetoe Room enjoyed an exciting outing to DH Supermarket this week. Even at under 2 years old, they were curious and engaged, exploring the sights, sounds, and smells of the supermarket environment.
The children experienced a rich sensory journey, touching and feeling different fruits and vegetables, listening to the bustle of trolleys, and noticing the bright colours and shapes of fresh produce. These early sensory experiences are crucial for their development and help build a love for exploration and learning.
They also practised social interactions, responding to familiar adults, observing their peers, and sharing small moments of connection with staff and community members. Simple interactions, such as pointing, reaching, and smiling at one another, are important milestones in early communication and social development.
This excursion reflects our centre philosophy of learning through real-life experiences and aligns with our local curriculum, encouraging curiosity, independence, and community engagement. Everyday experiences like smelling, touching, and observing are powerful learning opportunities that help our tamariki build confidence, awareness, and understanding of the world around them.
We loved seeing their delight, curiosity, and engagement, making this outing a joyful and meaningful learning adventure for our youngest learners.
