Dinosaur Volcano Eruption! 🦕🌋

The teachers made four clay volcanoes for our tamariki to experiment with!

The children added all the ingredients into the volcano with the help of our Kaiako, Zihao.

Here’s what they did:

  • Added ½ a cup of baking soda into the volcano

  • Mixed two drops of red food colouring into the vinegar

  • Used eye droppers to pour the red-coloured vinegar onto the baking soda

The children were so excited to use the eye droppers and watch the volcano erupt! The chemical reaction amazed everyone — and of course, each child wanted to add more vinegar to see it bubble even higher.

“Bubble, bubble, bubble!” they shouted, clapping their hands with joy. “Look at that! The volcano is going up!”

This activity was a fantastic way for our toddlers to explore early science concepts and develop working theories about how the world works. They loved watching the “lava” flow down the volcano and even brought their dinosaurs over to stomp through the scene.

Using the eye droppers also helped strengthen their fine motor skills — all while having so much fun!

We hope you enjoy seeing our awesome Dinosaur Land and the excitement our toddlers had as their volcano came to life! 🌋✨
