Our toddlers at BestStart Māngere East have been focusing on developing their communication skills, expanding their vocabulary, and discovering the joy of expressing themselves through language.
To support this learning focus, the teachers organised an enriching trip to the local library – Māngere East Library. At the library, the children took part in the “Rhyme and Wiggle” programme, a lively and interactive session designed to encourage early literacy through movement and song.
The children had a wonderful time dancing and waving colourful scarves to the rhythm of playful rhymes. This not only encouraged physical activity but also reinforced language and sounds.
Following the movement activities, the children explored a variety of books. They listened attentively to engaging stories led by Librarian Zayna, who organised this amazing event with our Kaiako Berna. The children’s excitement and curiosity throughout the day were wonderful to see.
Experiences like this help lay the foundation for a lifelong love of reading, communication, and learning, while also nurturing creativity, imagination, and social skills. We will definitely be back for more and can’t wait for our babies to join next time.
