In the Koru room, we cater for ages 3 months to 2.5 years before they transition to Tiaki Room. Koru means new beginnings, nurturing, personal growth, and a new phase and personal growth and here in the Koru room we pride ourselves on our Manaakitanga which feels warm and welcoming and you feel a sense of belonging from the first moment you enter our environment. We provide specialist education and care for our younger Tamariki, where their daily routines and rhythms are respected.

The foundation of each day stems from the relationships and conversations we have with parents and whanau, as we value everyone’s input, aspirations, culture, language, and identity for all our tamariki as we strongly value whanaungatanga when working in collaboration with whanau. We provide many different opportunities for Tamariki to explore and experiment using all their senses.

Our aim is for all our tamariki to develop strong trusting relationships with their Kaiako and peers, while they are supported to achieve success in their individual potential.

In the Tiaki Room, we cater to Tamariki approximately 2.5 years to 3.5 years of age. Our Tamariki enjoys uninterrupted learning and play times, exploring the areas of dramatic play, construction/vehicle play, art, exploring nature, and early literacy and numeracy.

As Kaiako in the Tiaki Room, we understand that the toddler years can be a very busy and emotional time when Tamariki are more active, are keen explorers, and try new things. Therefore, we support and encourage our young friends in the development of their communication skills, social skills, and independence.

We aim to provide a welcoming and calming atmosphere with a homelike feel and invite you and your whanau ideas and contributions to successfully achieve this within all areas of our Tiaki Room program. We respect that parents are the first teachers, you know your child best, so we want to work closely with you to meet your child’s individual needs. Te Tiaki Kaupapa: Caring for ourselves, caring for others, caring for our place.

Tuakiri, Turangawaewae and whanaungatanga are concepts that are key in the Tautoko of Tamariki in the Mana room. Our Tamariki is 3.5 years to 5 years they are encouraged to build their mana and be proud of who they are and where they come from making meaningful connections with people, places, and things that are recognized in our learning environment.

Opening Karakia is an important morning ritual we do every day which blesses us to be safe and guided in our learning. We promote a calm learning environment that is guided by Te Whaariki our curriculum, Kaiako and Te atua teach our tamariki to be curious, confident learners, develop self-help skills, be a Rangatira, confident in Te korero, learn about other cultures, be kaitiaki and to give Manaakitanga.

Tamariki engages in the program that encourages a rich purposeful Kaupapa and learning to be as ready as they can be for Kura.
