This month, BestStart Stoddard Road welcomed residents from Grace Dale Retirement Village, creating a special opportunity for tamariki to connect with the elderly and celebrate intergenerational friendships.
This month, we had the pleasure of welcoming residents from Grace Dale Retirement Village to our centre, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for both the children and our elderly guests. The visit aimed to foster intergenerational and community connections, and it certainly did just that.
From the moment they arrived, the children were filled with anticipation and excitement, eager to meet their new friends. The warmth of the residents shone through as they greeted the young ones with smiles and open arms.
The residents were invited to walk through the centre and visit all of our rooms. The older children were especially enthusiastic, confidently approaching the visitors and chatting away. This interaction not only brightened the residents’ day but also gave the children a beautiful sense of community and belonging.
Everyone gathered for a lovely morning tea, and the tamariki led the karakia with confidence and respect. One of the residents, Quinn—who is 96 years old—spoke about how capable and confident the children were. She shared how different things were in her own childhood, remarking on the rich, nurturing environment that our tamariki now enjoy.
The visit was a heartwarming success, promoting joy, understanding, and companionship between generations. It reminded us all of the beauty of community connections and the value of relationships that span across age groups.
The day ended with smiles, hugs, and promises of future visits. We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to come together and share more special moments.
