Prepare your tamariki for school with key focus areas like social skills, independence, and emotional readiness. Enjoy activities like Lunch Box Day, book bags, and regular school visits to build confidence for their school journey!
At Stoddard Road, we are dedicated to preparing tamariki for their transition to school. Our programme is designed to help children develop essential skills, build confidence, and foster a love of learning through engaging and fun activities.
Our Key Focus Areas:
-
Social Skills: Encourage interactions to make new friends and learn to share.
-
Basic Academic Skills: Introduce colours, shapes, numbers, and letters through play.
-
Independence: Foster self-help skills such as dressing and toileting.
-
Emotional Readiness: Teach children to understand and manage their emotions.
-
Fine/Gross Motor Skills: Encourage activities that develop these skills, essential for holistic growth.
Lunch Box Days:
Every Friday, Preschool Toru children have ‘Lunch Box Day.’ Tamariki bring healthy meals from home, promoting healthy eating habits and fostering a sense of responsibility and independence. This helps them feel more prepared and confident as they transition to school.
Reading Book Bags:
Children turning 5 will receive a book bag with one book each week. This initiative promotes literacy, parent involvement, and a love of reading, while enhancing cognitive development and school readiness. Every Friday, children take home age-appropriate books to explore.
Regular School Visits:
Our termly visits to May Road and Mt Roskill primary schools for 4-5-year-olds introduce tamariki to the school environment. They explore classrooms, interact with teachers, and engage in hands-on activities, fostering curiosity and excitement about starting school. Parents are encouraged to join these visits to observe their child’s interactions. We aim to instil confidence and enthusiasm for the adventures that lie ahead.
