At BestStart Te Atatu Peninsula, we live by our vision Where Aroha Leads. When you first walk into the centre you will be welcomed by our experienced and inclusive team. Our team is here to support you with information, enrolment, and making the decision to join our centre whanau and start your child's learning journey with us!

Our environment is designed with separate indoor and outdoor areas for infants, toddlers and children to cater to their developing learning needs. This allows us to provide new learning opportunities for all age groups. Our families love that our teachers (Kaiako) have expertise in their chosen age groups. We offer sessions, short days and full days, both part time and full time over the week.

Our youngest children are nurtured in the Tui room. The peaceful and loving environment of Tui room helps children settle and develop a sense of belonging. We ensure the space is calm and by really getting to know each child and family, each child’s care routines are supported and their interests stimulated through many fun and exciting activities.

Walking into the Kea room you will see our curious and bright toddlers busy with their learning activities. Discovering with their senses means getting in there and messy – loving the waterplay, gardening exploration and art supplies. It may look like play however they are busy building social skills so they understand how their world works alongside others.  We plan, support and educate our curious group through an individual focus to allow children to grow and learn at their own pace.

You will hear the excitement from the Kiwi and  Moa rooms preschool as you approach. Working in groups on projects, our incredible preschoolers are becoming their own people, and discovering their own interests. Our Set for School programme ensures that families know what to expect for their children's transition to the next phase of their learning journey. Through a play-based curriculum, our programme seamlessly integrates learning that aligns to the NZ school curriculum, including literacy, maths, and science. Our BestStart environments are thoughtfully arranged to foster greater independence and support children in developing essential self-help and socio-emotional skills needed for school readiness.

We invite you to come and see how we can help your child become capable, confident, independent and ultimately ready for school.

Please pass on our thanks to all the kaiako that helped entertain and teach the kids over the last 7 weeks through Storypark. It’s been amazing and given us some great activities to do and watch. I’m sure it will really help the kids transition back in on Monday. Zac loved listening to the stories and it’s great he’s been able to learn his little pepeha which Maria taught.

John O'Neill - Fuller

I wanted to write and say a huge and very sincere thank you for everything you have done for Jack. As you know he has 'graduated' from Best Start and starts at Rutherford Primary on Tuesday. He is very excited to do so and is already enjoying being at Primary school through his induction days. The fact he is so happy and comfortable is testament to the wonderful work that you all do at the centre. He always thoroughly enjoyed his days there and it was amazing to watch his development as you expertly guided him. We read his report with great interest and two things stood out.... how well you know him and how much you have cared about him on every level. Like all parents, Lisa and I are quite proud of our happy, healthy energetic little boy, which you have all made a huge contribution to. For that, I thank you most sincerely and we are so pleased that little Charlie is in such a wonderful centre for the next few years.

This has to be mine and the kids favourite video yet. We absolutely love this video; it was very beautiful to see the kids and the Whanau pictures going in the backyard to the music. I also loved seeing some of the other teachers joining in. Was very well done, great work guys.

Thank you so much Janine. Nova really loved that, and I think you might have even convinced her to join zoom today. We really appreciate all the efforts to provide activities and engagement with the kids, it’s really awesome. We can’t wait to be back.

Thanks so much for this, and sorry for the delayed reply. Leo loved the song, and the Lion. He’s obsessed with birds at the moment, so if you can think of anything related to that, then I’m sure he’d enjoy it. Hope everything is going ok with you and your family, we’ll hopefully see you soon!

Oh this is so lovely - thank you so much, Nikki! We just showed it to Sophie and at first she was a bit shy! I think she thought it was FaceTime! But she soon realised it was a video and she absolutely loved the song - in fact, she asked for “more, more” when it was finished so we had to play it twice more!! Thank you for taking the time to do such a personal message.

Thanks so much for checking in. The boys are doing well and loving being at home but I think they would actually love to get back to school and daycare too. Thanks for all that you do and they both love the zoom calls - gives them something to do and also reminds them about daycare, their friends and teachers too.

My daughter Trisha is doing great!. She only comes to the hui on Thursday and Friday because I work the other days. She really enjoys them though and especially loves saying the karakia and dancing. It’s great to have these huis as she can also see her friends who she misses dearly. I try and keep her and Tanush entertained but it’s hard work so I love the play/art and craft ideas you guys send through. Amazing work ladies!

Our rituals at the centre

An important ritual we do throughout the centre, is we say a karakia together, before we start our kai. A Karakia is a blessing of our food in Te Reo Maori.
