Can the centre give my child medication?

Yes. Medication can be administered to your child when parents or caregivers have provided written authorisation and clear instructions. Following established medication procedures helps ensure medicines are given safely and accurately.

Medication management in early childhood education requires clear communication, accurate record-keeping and careful administration. To support children's safety, medications should be supplied in their original packaging with dosage instructions and any information needed for administration.

At BestStart, trained teachers follow established procedures for administering medication, including recording the medication, dosage, time given and staff members involved. For additional safety, some medications may require verification by a second teacher. We work closely with families to ensure medication is managed safely and ask that the first dose of a new medication is given at home whenever possible.
