BestStart Kauri Flats embraced a vibrant April with rich cultural learning. From Ramadan to ANZAC Day, our tamariki explored stories, art, and traditions while growing respect, curiosity, and care for our world and community.

At BestStart Kauri Flats, we always love exploring and learning about different cultures and events. April was full of celebrations and learning opportunities alongside the children.

We began the month with Ramadan, where children engaged in art, songs, and stories related to this important time for Muslims, who fast from sunrise to sunset for 29 or 30 days depending on the lunar calendar.

On 11 April, we celebrated Vaisakhi, originally a grain harvest festival in Punjab. The children learned about its significance to Sikhism through stories and artwork.

Easter was another highlight, with Easter egg hunts and discussions during mat times, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and exploration in a fun, meaningful way.

Towards the end of the month, our ANZAC Day celebrations spanned over a week. Through stories, discussions, and creative activities, children began to understand the importance of remembering our heroes.

We also focused on Earth Day, learning how to care for our planet and Papatūānuku by being kaitiaki, practising waste sorting, and other activities.

Finally, a visit from our local Police helped raise awareness about wearing seat belts, adding a safety lesson to our busy month.

April was full of excitement and learning, and we look forward to continuing this journey throughout the year.
