We are excited to share our new learning space in the Prep room- our beautiful crafted Māori tangata and Kāinga.

This new space has already become a favourite with out tamariki, drawn to it with curiosity, creativity and a real sense of belonging.

Before setting up the space Kaiako and tamariki came together during morning hui to kōrero about tikanga surrounding the new resources. We discussed the importance of respect - how we treat the whare as a special space, how we handle the taonga with care.

Our kainga is more than just a play structure – it represents a connection to whakakpapa, community, and te ao Māori. Tamariki are using the space for imaginative play, storytelling, and quiet reflection, we’ve seen them take on roles as hosts, visitors, and exploring whanau dynamics through play. Our learning focus is on belonging and identity, as this new cultural space is a powerful tool in supporting this journey.

Through play and conversation, tamariki are learning te reo Māori, developing an understanding of Aotearoa’s bicultural foundations, and building a sense of pride in their environment. This space will evolve with us, shared by voiced of our whanau, the interest of tamariki and the guidance of Kaiako.
