Here at Beststart Meadowbank, we value tamariki having a strong sense of belonging. What better way to do that than by empowering children through physical exploration in their learning environment? We granted access to our enclosed carpark for the tamariki to enjoy on our Wheels Day. Having had families bring in their children's favorite scooter or bike to freely ride in the carpark area.

They were seen eagerly waiting to race around the entire car park, speeding around after one another and going down the concrete ramps. This physical exploration allowed children to challenge themselves in a different setting, with them learning to slow down and tilt their bodies to adjust their riding styles. We also promoted safe play by teaching the children to give space and respect to their fellow riders.

Additionally, this further empowered them to build connections to home by having their bikes with them and gaining more freedom to explore the outside of their learning environment. We have many families that enjoy bike riding with their children to the centre and within their home lives.

Therefore, this further strengthened our connection to the community, with all of our parents and whanau commenting about the success of the day.
