This month, new musical instruments have brought energy and excitement into our centre. As teachers and children unpacked these resources together, curiosity was sparked and meaningful conversations began around sound, rhythm, and music-making.
Children explored wooden xylophones, rattle shakers, rhythm blocks, castanets, wood tone instruments, and drums, discovering how each produced its own unique sound. With teacher support, children experimented freely, building confidence and understanding how their actions created different musical effects.
Children naturally formed small groups and spent extended periods making music together. They shared instruments, listened closely to one another, and took turns creating rhythms. Teachers supported these interactions by modelling gentle beats, encouraging attentive listening, and guiding cooperative play.
Over time, musical play extended beyond the indoor environment into outdoor spaces. Children noticed how sounds echoed and travelled differently in the open air, inspiring new ways of playing and collaborating. These shared musical experiences nurtured creativity, coordination, communication, and a strong sense of belonging within the learning community.
