For the past month, the under twos of The Kakano Room have been exploring the topic ‘Science and Nature’ from BestStarts 16 areas of play focus. Our curious minds have been fascinated as we explored this topic and have had lots of fun.

We investigated our garden, finding many little critters hiding in the plants including snails, spiders & worms. There has been much excitement in the room with the regular visits of butterflies and dragonflies too.

We have also loved exploring natural resources such as shells, flowers, leaves, and sticks and have discovered more about nature in books too. We experimented with cause and effect as we worked together to make our volcanos in the sandpit, mixed colors together with paint and dye, and also melted ice to discover little treasures frozen inside.

Our pēpi have loved mixing colored vinegar with baking soda, listening carefully to the fizzing sounds created, and feeling the bubbles on their fingertips. This has been such a fun topic to explore even with our youngest pēpi and we have loved seeing them enjoy exploring their ideas, being creative, and making discoveries about the wonderful world around them.
