Kiwi Cove - Cultural Learning
Our Kiwi Cove Room at Onslow Road is our initiative to start a program for our senior children to be school-ready so that children are excited and prepared for continuous learning. We support children with creative and critical thinking processes throughout their day. We provide experiences that introduce children to early concepts of maths, science, art, reading, and other curriculum areas.
We nurture our children to become confident by supporting them to think clearly and solve problems, to have the confidence to ask questions, and to expand their knowledge. As part of our programme this term we have been learning all our children's cultures, languages, and identities. We are a diverse community where we embrace and celebrate all of our children and families from all cultures. Our tamariki love learning about each other and respect and acknowledge each other's differences.
Multicultural contexts are viewed as holding many possibilities for learning and living that empower children, families, and communities. In the curriculum Te Whāriki (MoE, 2017), it is emphasised that every child should be culturally, physically, and emotionally safe in their learning environment and their funds of knowledge should be valued. It is well known that children who start school feeling confident and capable are better placed to have learning success in life. We want that for all of our children!
