Language, Culture & Identity
At Best Start Naenae we have a strong focus on Language, culture and identity not only are we learning constantly about who we are and where we come from, we are learning about others in the wider world.
Our Rākau ruma (preschool) is currently involved in a post card exchange programme that helps us to connect with others in different countries. Tamariki and our kaiako are excited about learning more about the world around us and receiving post cards from places such as Massachusetts USA, Croatia, Canada, Australia and the UK. We will be sharing some New Zealand taonga such as Tiki and pictures of things that are important to us.
An important aspect of learning about culture and identity is not only learning about your own but learning how other people view the world and what beliefs they bring with them, this gives us the ability to take on other peoples points of view. This is especially important in our ever increasing diverse world.
We hope for this to become an annual event and learn about many more countries and cultures in the future. We will continue to update as we receive our first postcards from around the world.
