Today our beautiful nursery tamariki were given the opportunity to have some fun.

The teachers decided to make some colourful gloop with food colouring and corn flour. The children we delighted to see the different colours and couldn't wait to start playing.

As you can see through the pictures, the children explored the texture of the gloop through their fingers and a little bit of taste testing. Messy play especially gloop gives children the opportunity to explore the texture and it develops their hand muscles and fine motor skills as they squeeze through the gloop. Developing their hand muscles plus fine motor skills through play will help them prepare for writing and holding a pencil. This is a great way to start our nursery rooms set for school program through aged appropriate activities.

During this interaction, the children were happy and showing their teachers and friends how much gloop they could catch with their hands and the utensils provided. This is a form of building communication through play with their peers and adults. The children were using facial expressions and features to communicate with each other and their teachers. Messy play is always so much fun, makes everyone happy and calm.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and seeing how much fun the children had. If you would like to explore gloop with your child- it is so simple and quick All you need is cornflour, food colouring, and water
