It's pancake time!

Our wonderful Waiti and Waita teachers have decided to do some baking for our Friday fun day!

It is Pink Shirt day and the children decided to make pink pancakes in celebration. Yummy!

The teachers gave each child a chance to pour in the ingredients and combine them together. Tamariki each had a turning mixing everything into a batter, which took a bit of work because we added some bananas!

Next everybody had to wait for kaiako to turn on the frying pan and heat up. Once it was ready, Marina and Criscel demonstrated how to pour the mixture onto the frying pan, and how you know its ready to flip over once they start to bubble. Tamariki were eagerly watching for the bubbles with each pancake. Kaiako supported tamariki in having their own turns flipping the pancakes over.

During this activity, children are socialising and working together to create yummy goodies. They are building relationships with their peers and they are working on turn taking. Baking is a great way to teach children how to count and measure. It is a great way to recognise numbers when looking at the measuring cup. The children really loved this activity and we cannot wait to do some more delicious baking!
