At our centre, we understand that growing up comes with big transitions. As your child moves from toddlers to preschool, we’re here to make the journey smooth and supported—with familiar faces, clear routines, and resources to guide the way.
From Toddlers to Preschoolers: Supporting a Smooth Transition
Moving from the toddler room to the preschool room is a big and exciting step in your child’s early learning journey. At our centre, we understand that even positive changes can bring questions and emotions—for both children and families. That’s why we’re focused on making this transition as smooth and supportive as possible.
Familiar Faces, New Routines
One of the benefits of our close-knit team is that the children already know their future preschool kaiako well. Because we work closely across rooms, the transition feels less like a move and more like a natural step forward.
That said, there are some key differences in the preschool environment. As children grow, we gently introduce more structure and support their developing independence, social skills, and early learning.
In preschool, children are encouraged to:
-
Take on more responsibility with self-help tasks
-
Participate in longer group activities and inquiry-based play
-
Develop stronger social-emotional and communication skills
Helping Parents Feel Informed
To support our families through this transition, we’ve created a Transition Pack. This helpful resource includes:
-
An overview of the preschool routine
-
Key differences in the preschool setting
-
Meet-the-teacher info
-
Insights from our local schools about the next transition into primary school
We’ll share this pack before the transition begins, giving you time to review and reach out with any questions.
A Shared Journey
Transitions take time, and we’re here to walk through this next chapter with you and your child. With familiar kaiako, open communication, and thoughtful preparation, we aim to make this move a confident and positive one.
