January was an exciting and vibrant month at BestStart Epsom as we welcomed our school holiday programme, filled with fun, exploration and meaningful learning experiences. Throughout the month, tamariki enjoyed a wide range of activities that supported curiosity, creativity and connection while making the most of the summer season.
One of the highlights was our Summer Carnival, where tamariki took part in a variety of fun games and enjoyed refreshing ice cream together. Laughter filled the air as children practised turn-taking, teamwork and confidence, while enjoying the joy of play and celebration with their friends.
We also held a much-anticipated Bike Day, giving tamariki the opportunity to ride, balance and navigate their bikes and scooters. This experience supported physical development, coordination and road safety awareness, while encouraging perseverance and confidence as children challenged themselves in a supportive environment.
During Nature and Science Week, tamariki became young scientists, exploring a range of hands-on experiments and STEM experiences. They tested ideas around gravity, fracture and magnetism, making predictions, observing outcomes and discussing what they noticed. These experiences encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving and a growing understanding of how the world around them works.
Another special highlight was Community Hero Week, where we welcomed firefighters from the Remuera Fire Station to our centre. Tamariki were thrilled to meet our local heroes, explore the fire truck up close and even climb inside. This visit sparked rich conversations about safety, helping others and the important role community helpers play in our lives.
Our January programme reflected our commitment to providing learning that is engaging, meaningful and connected to real-life experiences. Through play, exploration, science and community involvement, tamariki strengthened their sense of belonging, curiosity and confidence, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
