Our centre focus is the Enviroschools Sustainable Nurturing and Growth kaupapa, encouraging tamariki to care for the whenua. They look after our mara, interact with our chickens, collect eggs, and check the worm farm and compost during regular garden visits.

As part of this approach, tamariki have begun growing bean plants for our mara, nurturing and watering them as needed. When the beans are ready, they will place them in our pātaka, sharing them with whānau and the wider community. This hands-on involvement has inspired korero about how seeds grow into plants, giving tamariki the opportunity to observe each stage up close, which aligns with our Science and Nature kaupapa.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi’s focus on protecting all living things empowers kaiako to fully participate in the kaupapa alongside tamariki, creating a robust and constructive partnership with our centre whānau and fostering kaitiakitanga.

Our aim is to act now to ensure future generations gain the knowledge and understanding needed to become leaders and guardians of our whenua, awa, and living worlds. By nurturing our environments and promoting sustainable living habits, we can preserve and care for our natural surroundings, reaping the many benefits of ecological sustainability.
