Tamariki enjoyed a fun holiday with baking, gardening, crafts, and observing butterflies. With help from Tom's whānau, we explored the full life cycle from egg to butterfly—part of our kaitiakitanga journey and developing centre philosophy.
Over the school holidays, our tamariki enjoyed an amazing programme planned just for them, including a bike day, a water play day, and a teddy bears' picnic! It was wonderful to see so many of our friends attending and joining in on the fun.
There was lots of baking—cookies and cupcakes were made and shared for afternoon tea. We also planted the sprouted seeds from our Matariki celebrations in our garden and harvested an impressive amount of celery and cauliflower!
Leah and our tamariki made beautiful bead decorations for arts and crafts day, which are now proudly displayed on the deck. It was such a special and memorable time—well spent during the holidays.
As a new team, we are working together to develop our vision and philosophy, exploring what’s important to us and how that is reflected in our everyday teaching and learning.
As we embark on our kaitiakitanga journey, we’ve been fortunate to receive some chrysalis from Tom and his whānau. These have been carefully placed in our bug tent, where we’ve observed the magical transformation from chrysalis to butterfly.
Our tamariki have loved caring for the butterflies, giving them fruit and water before releasing them into the garden. This hands-on experience has been a fantastic opportunity to explore nature, science, and responsibility—with the excitement continuing as Tom has now brought in caterpillars so we can observe the full life cycle from egg to butterfly!
