From a thriving community garden to reimagined play spaces, Pipiwai Kindy is embracing kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga. With whānau support, our tamariki are learning the value of caring for the environment, sharing kai, and exploring new ways to grow and learn together.
Community Garden Vision
One of the most exciting developments this month is the transformation of our chicken coop into a thriving community garden. Our goal is to grow nutritious vegetables that can be shared with whānau through our Pātaka Kai, support our garden-to-table learning, and help feed our beloved bunnies.
This initiative is deeply rooted in our philosophy of kaitiakitanga—caring for our environment and each other. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive generous support from our community, with many whānau donating their time and labour to help bring this vision to life. This mahi wouldn’t be possible without you.
Pātaka Kai – Sharing and Nourishing
Our Pātaka Kai at the front entrance is open to all. This initiative reflects our values of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and kaitiakitanga—nurturing relationships, caring for others, and protecting our environment.
It’s a beautiful way for tamariki to learn about gardening, harvesting, sharing kai, and caring for their bodies and community.
Creating Spaces That Spark Learning
Over the past few months, we’ve been reimagining our learning environment. Tamariki have played a big role in shaping these changes, helping us design spaces that reflect their interests, developmental stages, and the values we hold as a team.
We’ve created areas that encourage exploration, inquiry, creativity, and confidence—where tamariki can challenge themselves, build independence, and enjoy being in our space. We’re proud of the thoughtful planning and collaboration that has gone into creating these rich learning opportunities.
Our environment now supports all 16 areas of play, allowing tamariki to share, take turns, communicate, and problem-solve alongside their friends.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited about what’s to come and deeply grateful for the support of our whānau and wider community. Together, we’re growing something truly special—watch this space!
