How do you support breastmilk, formula and bottle feeding at childcare?

We support breastmilk, formula and bottle feeding by following each baby's individual feeding routine as closely as possible. Consistent feeding practices help babies feel comfortable and provide continuity between home and childcare.

Every baby's feeding needs are different and can change over time. Understanding feeding schedules, quantities, preferences and feeding cues helps ensure babies receive responsive care that supports their wellbeing and development.

At BestStart, we work closely with families to understand each baby's feeding routine and any specific instructions. Expressed breastmilk and formula are stored, prepared and warmed in line with health and safety requirements, and all bottles are clearly labelled. Our teachers provide calm, attentive one-to-one support during feeds and maintain regular communication with families as feeding needs evolve.

Good to know

  • Bottles, expressed breastmilk and formula should be clearly labelled with your child’s name before arriving at the centre.
  • Feeding routines often change during the first year as babies grow, start solids and develop new eating patterns.
  • Let your teachers know about any changes to feeding preferences, allergies or dietary requirements so we can update your baby’s care routine.
