Each term, we have excursions with Heidi from Kids Greening Taupo!
Today we went to our local park to do some weeding, and explore our local park. Heidi had spoke to us about this huge weed in our local park that disrupts the native trees growing around it. It was the children’s job to get rid of the tall weed
Each child had a turn at pulling the big weed out, and then chopping the branches and tree down so that it doesn’t grow and annoy the other trees again. When that was done, we walked around our local park and stopped to look at a cluster of small flowers.
The children were able to get a closer look at what the flowers were, and talk about the different stages of development the flower was at. We then went on to explore our native Harakeke bush. Heidi showed us how we can use our Harakeke leaves to weave different things.
Heidi teaches the children a lot of valuable things about nature. We learn how we can respect and take care of Papatuanuku. We also learn how to take care of our native plants and ways in which we can use our native plants. We explore different types of flowers, and how they grow.
The children always love having Heidi within our centre, or going on Termly excursions with her!
