Do you support baby-led weaning and the introduction of solids?
Yes. We support both baby-led weaning and spoon-feeding approaches, depending on your family's preferences and your baby's stage of development. Introducing solids is an important milestone, and feeding approaches can vary from one family to another.
When babies begin eating solid foods, it is important that food is offered in ways that are developmentally appropriate and support safe exploration. Babies learn about food through touching, tasting and self-feeding, and many families choose a combination of baby-led weaning and spoon-feeding as their child develops.
At BestStart, we work closely with families to understand what foods have been introduced at home and any feeding approaches being followed. Teachers supervise mealtimes closely, prepare foods appropriately for each child's age and stage, and follow safe feeding practices to support positive mealtime experiences.
Good to know
- Many families use a combination of baby-led weaning and spoon-feeding as their child develops and their feeding skills change.
- Introducing one new food at a time can make it easier to identify any potential reactions or sensitivities.
- Before sending food to the centre, let your teachers know which foods your baby has already tried and any foods you are currently introducing at home.
